Trams: The trams are a fun, efficient and economical way to get around the center of Amsterdam. The fare is $3.80/hour or $9.50/day. There are 14 lines converging at Amsterdam Central Station, the city's main hub for public transportation.

Buses:  The bus system in Amsterdam is extensive and efficient. There are 35 trains in all, and each line connects the city center with Amsterdam Airport Schiphol via a shuttle operating every 15 minutes.For those looking to have an evening out on the town, whereas trams and metros operate between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., night buses come in clutch for after-dark transportation.

If you're planning to do some sightseeing, consider purchasing a day pass for the tram or bus. A day pass costs €7.50 and allows you unlimited travel on all Amsterdam public transport for 24 hours. You can purchase a day pass at any tram or bus stop from the driver, and they are also available at GVB Tickets & Info offices and some hotels.
